About views

Views are graphical representations of a site's pages and the links connecting them. There are three views of actual sites and one of site designs. The links, navigation, and structure views show the actual site.

  • The links view shows the site's pages and all the hyperlinks that connect them.
  • The navigation view shows the site's navigation hierarchy--the tree-like logical structure that underlies its web of hyperlinks.
  • The structure view shows the site's file hierarchy--the tree-like structure of folders, subfolders, and their contents.
  • The design view shows a storyboard of a prototype site or subsite.

  • You display the links, navigation, and design views by choosing, respectively, Links View, Navigation View, and New Site Design from the Design menu. You can also display the navigation view by creating a site report. Site reports are also displayed in structure views. For information on the uses of the links view, see About links views. On the navigation views, see About navigation views and Viewing site reports. On the uses of the structure view, see Viewing site reports. On the uses of the design view, see About site designs

Views usually have a single pane, but you can also display up to four special-purpose panes on the periphery of this main pane.
